American tennis legend Serena Williams is going to retire after the ongoing US Open. Serena Williams has joined the list of all-time elite athletes who have transcended their respective sports. The 23-time Grand Slam winner recently named a few of her GOATs. Interestingly, she also included herself on the list.
The 40-year-old earlier declared in her article for Vogue magazine that she has decided to evolve away from tennis. With this, she will end her illustrious career that has stretched for more than 25 years on the professional tour.

Serena Williams adds herself to the list of GOATs
Speaking about her GOAT list, Serena mentioned the names of Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Michael Jordan before she added her own name.

Serena Williams was not in great form going into the US Open. In the four matches that she played, the 40-year-old lost in three of them. As she started her campaign in the Arthur Ashe stadium, many would have thought it would be her last match. However, Serena is not finished yet. The former world number played a brilliant first-round match to defeat Danka Kovinić in straight sets.
Serena has a clear message. She is going to give it all before she retires. Up next, she will be facing Anett Kontaveit in her second-round encounter. The Estonian made it to the second round after a near-perfect victory against the Romanian Jaqueline Cristian.
