Serena Williams‘ recent interview with Oprah Daily editor and CBS mornings hostess Gayle King has gone viral. But not just for a single reason. Ranging from her life after tennis to the secret of her happy marriage, Serena has candidly shared her life with the audience. One such topic is the memory of her father, King Richard, back when he coached the sisters.
During the interview, there are several times that Serena talks about her father. At one point, Gayle shows her a clip of the younger Serena, adorably pressed against her father after releasing a fit of rage on her racket. In these moments, King Richard says some wise words to the little girl who would one-day rule tennis. Following this, Serena revealed what her dad thought of her retirement decision.

King Richard wants Serena Williams to play another Slam
Serena Williams lives in a big farmhouse in Florida with her husband Alexis Ohanian and daughter Olympia. Although the tennis legend has taken a break from the court after the US Open 2022, her fans keep hoping that she will make an amazing comeback.
Gayle too does not avoid this question. Prodding about the topic of her life after tennis, she asks, “What do you feel when you look at the tennis court now?”
While most of her fans would expect Serena to feel emotional about her life after retirement, surprisingly, it is not so. Serena rather feels relief, as she says. She feels happy that she has something else to look forward to in her life, and it’s not tennis.

However, the tennis legend does seem emotional when she looks at her pictures from the victorious championships. She says, “I feel more pain, just like by looking at old pictures…of championships or something like that.”
She continues speaking animatedly, “I’m like, Oh! I miss that.”
Here comes a sweet revelation from Serena. She confesses that King Richard himself teases her to keep playing. He keeps irking her in the direction of the court. “And then my dad is like- ‘Serena, you should play one more Grand Slam, or like two more Grand Slams…And I’m like, ‘Dad, stop.'”
Being her first coach and father, it definitely is natural for Richard Williams to want his daughter to play again. He has not just taught his daughters how to play tennis, but also educated them on the most important things in life- like handling their finances.

However, the WTA legend has also crushed all hopes of returning to the court as of now. As Gayle King asks her, “Is there a slight opening in the door?”
Serena shuts it down with a no. She says that her whole life has been dedicated to tennis, and now, she just wants to spend time doing something else. As is evident by her recent life updates on social media, Serena is living a fulfilled life celebrating her family and her business.
