While the excitement of the final was there, the Russian was no match for Serena as she easily defeated Sharapova in straight sets to clinch her third Australian Open title. It also was Serena’s eighth Grand Slam title. Serena ranked world number 81 before the tournament and entered the tournament unseeded. It also makes Serena’s victory even more special.
