Ever since she retired from tennis in 2022, motherhood has taken center stage for Serena Williams. Last year, she welcomed her second child, Adira, into the world. While on some occasions she can be seen dropping Olympia to her school, on other occasions, she gets involved in various fun activities with her elder daughter. Recently, she recounted a hilarious incident from Olympia’s school.

Like her mother, Olympia is quite popular in the social circles. She is well-known in her school, among teachers and parents of other kids, so much so that they called Serena Williams “Olympia’s mother,” and not something from her tennis background.

When Olympia took center stage over Serena Williams

Recently, Williams appeared on the TODAY show with Hoda and Jenna. During their conversation, she was asked about her experience volunteering at Olympia’s school. The American legend said, “Sometimes, I sign my name up, whenever I can when there is a spot open. I am friends with all the moms, they’re really nice and sweet.”

Further, she went on to add, “And it’s like, you have this group of women that know me I am Olympia’s mom, not Serena Williams. And kids are like, Olympia’s mom, and I am like I’m gonna let that slide.”

This is not the first time Olympia has overshadowed her mother. On many social media posts shared by the 23-time Grand Slam champion, the 6-year-old Olympia can be seen oozing confidence and having mischievous moments.

This is quite an achievement for Olympia, who has made a name for herself despite having renowned parents. Meanwhile, her father, Alexis Ohanian, wanted exactly the same and he would be quite happy that Williams is being called “Olympia’s mother” in school.

The Reddit co-founder was of the opinion that the popularity of him and Williams shouldn’t translate to their children. But instead, Olympia should work toward achieving her own stardom.

Talking about this, he said, “The thing I know I wanted to shield them from was this idea that they are special just because of who their parents are. They are special, but for other reasons. Reasons of their own accounting and agency… This is one of those, ‘You’ve got to wait. Check back in 20 years’ things, but we’re trying.”

Despite Williams taking a backseat in her daughter’s school, she’ll be super proud of her daughter’s achievement. It is another feather in the cap for Olympia!
