Two years after their first appearance in the Tracey Ullman Show, The Simpsons debuted on the Fox network as a half-hour show in 1989. It is an American sitcom that is well appreciated for its witty take on the day-to-day life of a family. However, what caught tennis fans’ attention is the guest appearance of tennis legends such as Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

Recently, the ESPN Tenis took us down the memory lane on Instagram. They shared a picture from when tennis collaborated with Simpsons. And wrote, A day like today, but from 1987, the first chapter of The Simpsons premiered. Do you remember this one?

The star-studded season 12’s episode 12 named, ‘Tennis the menace’ aired on February 11th, 2001. The entire layout of the episode was like others, with a focus on the main four characters. However, what helped the Simpsons team break some TRP records was the addition of tennis stars. Along with the Williams duo, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras featured in an episode based on Homer and Marge’s tennis adventures.

Further, the Simpsons apart from their satirical humor usually hit the headlines because of their almost accurate future predictions. One such incident of foreshadowing was the picturization of Donald Trump becoming the president of the USA.

Serena and Venus Might Not Miss the Grass This Year

Both Serena Williams and Venus Williams have sidelined tennis for almost a year now. Serena walked out of the court due to a leg injury in the 2021 Wimbledon championship. Whereas Venus played till the Chicago Women’s Open and stepped out of the circuit to heal her torn hamstring.

Recently both have made comments about their comebacks. However, they are yet to make an official announcement. Serena spoke about her probable return during the bitcoin 2022 conference. And Venus hinted at her will to play in the grass courts while responding to Q and A’s of her clothing brand called Eleven.
