After many glorious years on the tennis circuit, the American legend decided recently to call it quits. Serena revealed that she will retire after playing the US Open later this month. Recently, she made a surprise visit to a local restaurant following her Cincinnati loss.

Earlier this week, the younger Williams sister was in Cincinnati to participate in the Western and Southern Open. However, her campaign ended in the first round after losing against Emma Raducanu. A day after bowing out of the tournament, Serena visited Jeff Ruby’s restaurant, Carlo & Johnny in Cincinnati.

Subsequently, Jeff Ruby took to Twitter to thank Serena for showing up at his restaurant. He said, “Thank you [Serena] for spending your evening at Carlo and Johnny last evening. Our staff appreciated your kindness. Congratulations on your well deserved place in American sports history.”

Raducanu inflicts a bagel on Serena

The British star won a lop-sided first-round match against Serena in Cincinnati. In a match lasting just over an hour, Raducanu prevailed in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. With this, Raducanu became one of the few players to inflict a bagel on the former World Number 1.

Other players who have inflicted a bagel on Serena in her home country include the likes of Alexia Dechaume-Balleret, Justine Henin, and Johanna Konta. Nonetheless, Serena will be determined to come back strongly in the last tournament of her illustrious career, the US Open. The hard-court Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows starts on August 29.
