Starting a company from scratch is not an easy task. But Serena Williams’ husband deserves all the credit for doing his best to build Reddit into the microblogging giant it is today. Reddit was founded by Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, nearly 18 years ago. But, developing a social firm and getting it on a legitimate marketing platform was much more difficult. And literally decades after turning Reddit into a success, the 40-year-old American businessman disclosed how he toiled diligently to put Reddit on the commercial map.

The husband of the former WTA World No. 1 is a well-known figure in the world of entrepreneurship. However, nothing comes without hard work, and he put in more effort than anyone else to obtain the things he desired. Because of this, the 40-year-old American entrepreneur is still succeeding in his other professional ventures, even after leaving Reddit. So let’s take a look at what he used as his mantra when he took on his first business adventure.

Serena Williams’ husband shares his Reddit struggle mantra 

As an entrepreneur, Ohanian believes that working to get your first few users or first few customers is the toughest part in any business. Recently, in a talk with an expert video for the Intro, a popular Instagram page, the Reddit co-founder shared his secret regarding how he started the social media app with only 10 to 20 active users. But eventually, Ohanian turned the tables by hosting the Reddit users with warm welcomes and giving them a lot of attention and time.

He said, “So, starting Reddit as soon as I graduated, one of the first things I did was to ask that community to come on over and try this new thing that we had built. And probably 10 maybe 20 actually like created an account and became active users. That’s just it; you have to expect to kind of scrap and claw your way to those early users. ”

In addition, he also talked about how, before Reddit, he made a small community where people used to talk about news and politics. And in that community, there were around 600 to 700 people, but only 10 to 20 got on board with him.

On another occasion, while reminiscing about the early days of Reddit, he talked about how he faced insults from Yahoo back when he started Reddit.

When Ohanian’s Reddit faced insults from Yahoo

The American businessman, 40, has been very candid about his concerns with Reddit. In a similar vein, he mentioned how Yahoo had called him to a meeting about 20 years ago in an interview with “The F**king Metaverse Product” almost last year. He explained how he initially believed the reception would be much different from what it turned out to be.

A representative insulted him by saying that Reddit was insignificant in comparison to Yahoo. He persevered despite this, though, and took that as motivation to improve his social media platform. And because of Ohanian’s diligence and hard work, Reddit eventually surpassed Yahoo in terms of traffic in 2017.
