The American tennis legend Serena Williams is arguably the greatest tennis player in the Open Era. The 41-year-old has 23 Grand Slam titles to her name and her last major title came back in 2017. Despite playing brilliantly in the subsequent years, she failed to equal the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles held by Margaret Court.

While there could be multiple reasons for the same, Serena had no regrets when she retired. Recently, Serena featured on the Wilson Tennis Family dinner. Here, the 6-time US Open champion spoke to Billie Jean King in her own unique way and disclosed how she lost to people who had a terrible second serve.

During the chat, Serena spoke about the time she lost to players, who, according to her, didn’t have a good second serve.

“Serena: A lot of people won grand slams that haven’t had a super strong second serve.

King: Why do you think of they won?

Serena: Because I played terrible that day.

King: Against whom?

Serena: A good number of players but it’s true.”

After winning her 23rd Grand Slam, on many occasions, she came close to winning the elusive, record-equaling 24th title. However, she failed to cross the final hurdle. Serena made it to the finals of several Grand Slam tournaments four times after her last title in 2017. The first was in 2018 Wimbledon, while the last time the 41-year-old played a Grand Slam final was against Bianca Andreescu in the 2019 US Open.

Although we can’t accurately judge what matches Serena must have been talking about, fans can guess that she was talking about her last four finals. If only Serena had won those matches, she would have technically retired as the greatest player of all time.
