Chris Evert, the 18-time Grand slam champion, is one of the most influential veterans in tennis. She still has a hold on fans. People love traveling back in time to witness the skills she displayed during her playing days. Evert was one of those players who believed in concealing one’s emotions while on the court.

Her stern face kept her opponents in a constant dilemma and gave her uninterrupted control over the entire flow of a match. However, the factor that made her stand out the most affected her in her personal life. Evert’s habit of asserting dominance seeped into her personal life. As per her last husband, Greg Norman’s sister, she overpowered his decisions. 

When Chris Evert acted as a control freak 

Ms. Norman, in a 2010 interview, claimed that her brother had given Evert permission to speak for him. To prove the same, she gave an example of how tennis’ ‘Ice Maiden’ talked her brother out of buying a property and ruined a family holiday. She said, “She hated it here, especially in Queensland.”

Thereafter, she added, “Greg was so keen to buy a property. She did everything to discourage him buying anything and one of her boys hated being here so much he went home early.”

“It was not a happy family holiday.” The former World no.1 broke her marriage with Andy Mill to get hitched to the Australian golfer. She walked out of an 18-year-long relationship in 2006 and exchanged vows with Norman in the year 2008. However, the relationship didn’t last long, as within a span of 15 months, they decided to file for divorce. 

In addition, prior to Mill, Evert dated the eight-time Grand Slam champion Jimmy Connors and was married to John Lloyd. Her first marriage with John Lloyd lasted until 1987. A year after that, she tied the knot with the Olympic Alpine ski racer, Andy Mill.

What is Evert up to these days?

The 67-year-old after retirement got inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and decided to stay in touch with the sport. She picked up broadcasting and analytical roles. Evert joined ESPN in 2011 and since then she has covered all four Grand Slams for the channel. Also, she manages the Evert Tennis Academy with her younger brother.

Further, apart from that, she takes active participation in fundraisers and runs Chris Evert Charities. The organization focuses on solving issues such as drug abuse and child neglect.
