Emma Raducanu recently sent a shockwave across the internet when she updated her fans about the triple surgeries she recently underwent. But out from this storm of disappointment; a smile beamed from Emma Raducanu’s face. To many, it was a reflection of the warrior spirit of the tennis star. The bad news for her fans is she has undergone one more surgery. The good ‘news’ – tennis legend and vocal Emma supporter Chris Evert believes she would soon battle her way to the top ten.
Chris Evert lighting a candle of hope with kind words for Emma Raducanu
At an Eurosport event, reported by Tennis365, Chris Evert spoke at length about the comeback of the Grand Slam winner. She defended Emma from those who believe she got drowned in the world of advertisements and endorsements. She quipped, “The fact she is so beautiful and charismatic, all the (sponsorship) offers came in and you can’t say she shouldn’t have signed them. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

And will she be able to regain her form? And will she be able to climb to the number one spot? Chris had some crisp answers to these questions. She said,
“Do I think she can get to No 1 in the world? Probably not,”
“Do I think she could be top ten in the world? Yes.”
“Let’s give her time. She won a Grand Slam title. I’m not worried about Emma.”
Further, she shared her optimism and also delved deeply into what barricades Emma faces on her way. Evert emphasised that people need to remember that she is a US Open winner and even more important “who she beat to get there.”
The 18-time Grand Slam winner also subtly slammed the English media. She felt England was a “small country” and media there has been tough on her.
And what explains Emma’s current troubles, according to Chris?
“So she became overwhelmed, probably lost a little perspective, maybe didn’t train as hard, and felt the pressure and expectation. That is a hurricane of stuff thrown in her face,” she felt.

Emma’s fitness troubles
The last 18 months have not been kind to the 20-year-old tennis sensation. Earlier this month, she underwent surgery on her wrists. Then her ankle troubles began. After the ankle surgery, Emma shared a picture on her social media accounts that her other wrist has undergone surgery, too. Is she going to miss the grass court season this summer? She has confirmed that she is not going to play there. Her chances of playing the US Open seem bleak as well.
