2-time Grand Slam Winner, Simona Halep didn’t had a great 2021, due to some injury problems. She missed Wimbledon last year as a defending champion. However, the Romanian player made a strong comeback in 2022 after winning the Melbourne Summer Set 1 tournament before the Australian Open.

Her performance wasn’t that bad in the Australian Open either, as Simona reached the fourth round of the tournament. Despite having a good tournament, Halep has parted ways with two of her coaches, Adrian Marcu and Daniel Dobre, after the Australian Open. Former Romanian tennis player, Ilie Nastase recently talked about Halep’s decision to fire her coaches.

Ilie Nastase feels Simona Halep made the right decision

Ilie Nastase believes it’s up to Simona to decide whether to have a coach or not. According to him, Simona made the right decision by firing two of her coaches.

“If she decided to play without a coach, she must be let go! If she doesn’t want a coach, she shouldn’t have a coach… Before the game, a coach might tell her a lot, but during the game, she decides. She has to find the solutions on the field. She has to be rested and play, because she knows what she’s doing,” Nastase said about Simona having a coach.

“All the advice that Darren Cahill gave me during our six years together, I will put into practice in this new stage, in which I feel very relaxed, without pressure. Now I want to discover things by myself, develop myself as a person,” Simona said about her relationship with Cahill.

“He also teach me how to be a better person out of the court, to enjoy more life. Because of him now I’m talking to everyone… For me, he has been a really important person for my whole life,” Halep further added.

It will be interesting to see how Halep fares without a coach on the tour, as she has to take most of her decision on her own. If Halep can use the experience, she had all those years with Cahill, she can do well.

Will we see the Cahill and Halep partnership in the future? Let us know in the comments.
