Coco Gauff is rightly one of the most prominent players on the tour. Coming in limelight with her win over Venus Williams at the 2019 Wimbledon, Gauff is one of the most loved players today. However, it hasn’t been long since the 18-year-old has realized the love from her fans.

Going back to the childhood days of Gauff, she was also a victim of one of the most common misconceptions in sports. The 2022 French Open finalist today enjoys a huge fan following behind her. A fan following that leaves no chance to shower love on the young American. However, as a child, Gauff was under the impression that people would only like her if she won.

Recently, in conversation with a media house, Gauff opened up about the time she was taking the extra mile, pressuring herself, just to get the love from fans. Opening up about advice she would give to her younger self, Gauff said, “I would say, ‘you’re crazy, you’re putting so much pressure on yourself’.”

“She was crazy,” she added while beginning to elaborate.

Ever since her debut on the tour, Gauff has experienced numerous highs and lows. On one hand, she has suffered early round exits in numerous tournaments. On the other hand, she has also reached the later rounds on other occasions. The latest being the finals of the 2022 French Open.

Even though she continues to see the ups and downs in her career, she is undoubtedly filled with love from her fans. Opening up on how people react towards her, Gauff said, “People come up to me and say they support me regardless of whether I win or lose, and it almost brings me to tears.”

Explaining the reason behind having tears, an emotional Gauff ended by saying, “Because when I was younger, even 15 or 16, I would think that people would only like me if I won.”
