Serena Williams has had many monumental milestones in her career. She won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 1999 as a 17-year-old. In just her second attempt at the tournament, the younger Williams sister defeated Martina Hingis in the summit clash of that tournament to announce her name on the big stage.

Further, Serena has gone on to win an incredible 23 Grand Slam singles titles. Dominating the sport for more than 25 years is itself a big achievement. Serena’s latest Grand Slam title came at the Australian Open in 2017. Along with her 23rd Grand Slam title, it was the beginning of a new journey for the American legend that year.

Before the commencement of the Grand Slam Down Under in 2017, Serena found out that she was pregnant. She called Alexis and asked him to come to Australia. When he flew to Melbourne, Serena gave this news to him. Further, she detailed the events at the time of her child’s birth.

Serena Williams opens up about the birth of her daughter

The 23-time Grand Slam champion recalled the experiences of her first child’s birth. She said, “I spent the night in the hospital with my baby in the room. When I woke up, she was nestled in my arms. The rest of my body was paralyzed. I couldn’t get out of bed because my legs were still numb, but it didn’t matter. Alexis and I sat there, alone with our new baby. It was surreal to feel the presence of this third person in the room. Who was this new little creature?”

Serena went on to play in 2017 Australian Open despite being pregnant. The victory was made even sweeter as she defeated her elder sister, Venus Williams, in the summit clash to win her 23rd Grand Slam title. Subsequently, she missed the remainder of the 2017 season and made a comeback at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells in 2018.
