Gauff’s career breakthrough came in 2019 when, at just 15 years old, she defeated five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in the opening round. Everyone since has expected Gauff to win a major soon but she hasn’t yet. Owing to the same, ESPN Analyst and 18-time Grand Slam champion Chris Evert is of the opinion that not winning a major till now might turn out to be a good thing for Coco Gauff in the long run.

Chris Evert said how not winning a major can be a good thing for Coco Gauff

Gauff has continued to make strides in her career, establishing herself as a formidable force on the WTA tour. She has notched up multiple titles and climbed up the rankings, all while maintaining a level of maturity and composure well beyond her years.

Everyone including Chris Evert was expecting Gauff to win a Grand Slam soon after she defeated Venus Williams. However, that has not happened to her yet. In an interview with Reuters, Chris Evert said, “When I saw her play at 15 years old at Wimbledon and beat Venus Williams I for sure thought by now she would have won a major”.

Further, she also talked about how not winning a major can turn out to be a good thing for her in time. She added, “It’s probably better for her because it’s not happening overnight, she’s not a flash in the pan. She’s just going gradually on her path in a slower way. I think that’s going to benefit her in the long run.

As of now, Coco Gauff is playing at the Eastbourne International tournament. She has defeated Jessica Pegula to reach the semifinals of the tournament. However, after she lost at the Roland Garros against Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals, she was clearly frustrated at the press conference and was trying her best to hide it.

She has lost to Swiatek 7 times straight. Further, she also mentioned that losing to someone 7 times sure does feel bad.
