Serena Williams talks about taking her retirement decision
While talking to Jimmy Fallon, Serena revealed, “In the beginning, I literally could not tell anyone and I write about it in the magazine, in ‘Vogue’. The only person that knew at one point was my therapist, because verbalizing it meant that it was real. I don’t want it to be real. So, you know, I was not quite sure, like What I was gonna do. And I don’t think you really know until you say it or until it’s actually real.“
In the interview, Serena talked about feeling really stressed out and ‘miserable’ about the article coming out in Vogue magazine. However, she had a surprising experience after letting the world know about her retirement.
“When it came out, I was actually relieved, and I did not expect to feel that way. I felt good. Yes, I felt pretty good… It’s like when you want to accomplish something and you don’t do it and then when you finally do it, it’s like ‘oh it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was’ and that’s kind of what it was like. I should have done it 10 years ago! I’m just kidding (laughs),” she further said.
