Danielle Collins has been showcasing a dominant form right from the time she started her run for the title in Miami. While the tennis star managed to win her first-ever WTA 1000 title by stunning Elena Rybakina in the finals, she continued her supremacy in Charleston as well. Making it to the semi-finals, the American is set to be in a showdown against Maria Sakkari, making fans remember the absolute drama in their last matchup.

In a tense match at the Montreal 1000 tournament in 2023, Danielle Collins and Maria Sakkari faced off against each other in a round of 32 match. Besides the high competitive levels of the match, what grabbed the attention of the fans was an incident in which both players got involved in a heated exchange.

During the match, with Collins leading in both sets, Sakkari’s frustration crossed the levels of ignorance as she smacked the ball out of bounds towards the stands where spectators were seated. Collins didn’t waste a second to seize the moment, confronting Sakkari by accusing her of recklessness. “Did you just see that? Did you see what happened?” Collins shouted, pointing out the dangerous move.

Sakkari decided to defend herself, as she thought it was something that could be easily ignored. She stated, “It didn’t even hit anyone. It was on the ground.” The debate continued to extend as Collins was quick to punish her with a simple, “Shut your mouth” exclamation.

While Sakkari also wasn’t ready to drop it easily, she escalated the debate, insisting, “What is your problem? I didn’t hit anyone. I framed the ball.” Collins remained firm, explaining, “You hit the ball into the stands Maria. You almost hit someone.”

Despite the on-court drama, Collins ultimately secured the victory with a final score of 6-4, establishing herself as a strong force both in terms of performance as well as in stepping forward as a player with a positive attitude.
