‘Sick to My Stomach Over This’ – Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova Express Their Disappointment Over WNBA Star Brittney Griner’s Recent Trial

The rivalry between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova has been one of the best rivalries ever seen in the sport. Despite the rivalry, they have become quite good friends over the years. Nowadays, they use their social media presence to express their voices about various matters.

Recently, Navratilova and Evert voiced their frustration over the arrest of WNBA star Brittney Griner. Both of them took to Twitter and expressed their strong opinions regarding the matter.

Earlier, Martina Navratilova took to Twitter and wrote, “This is just so wrong…”

Later, Chris Evert retweeted this and said, “Shackled…. Over cannibas…..I’m sick to my stomach over this… Come home soon and safe, Brittney.”

Notably, Griner was arrested almost four months ago at the airport on Cannabis possession charges. Since then, she has been spending time in police custody throughout her entire trial period. On Monday, the court extended her detention for a further six months. If the court found her guilty, she could serve a prison sentence of 10 years.

Clearly, both Navratilova and Evert did not like this decision, as they showed their displeasure on Twitter.

The incredible rivalry between Navratilova and Evert

Throughout their career, Navratilova and Evert faced each other 80 times and Navratilova won 43 of them while Evert triumphed 37 times. Many fans argue that their rivalry was the biggest in the history of tennis, as it lasted around 16 years.

Incidentally, both of them won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, but Evert had a better career in terms of longevity and overall statistics. At first, Navratilova was not successful at all against Evert, winning just 1 out of their first 7 encounters. However, the former Czech-American player made a tremendous comeback to go ahead of Evert in the head-to-head record.

Out of their 80 battles, 60 of them were in finals where Navratilova had a better record (36-24). In Grand Slam events, they met 22 times and the Czech-American star won 14 of those matches. Both Navratilova and Evert had contrasting styles of play; Navratilova’s specialty was serve and volley while Evert was more of a baseline player.
