In 2022, the former world No.1 Simona Halep was handed a four-year suspension from tennis. She was banned after her stint in the US Open due to irregularities in her Athlete Biological Passport. After the decision by the International Tennis Integrity Agency Tribunal, dated 22 September 2023, in which she was found to have committed Anti-Doping Rule Violations, Halep was sanctioned with a four-year period of ineligibility commencing on 7 October 202. This clearly had a huge impact on the Romanian tennis star’s career.
After being on the sidelines for a year, Halep’s case became a talking point in the European Parliament. Surprisingly, this could trigger a new tangent in the case that poses a threat to Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
