The 2-time singles Grand Slam champion Simona Halep’s competitive journey was hindered by her doping saga, as she tested positive for consuming a banned substance. However, after making various appeals to prove her innocence, the Romanian tennis player has now got some good news around the corner.
As she was found not guilty of intentional doping, the former number-one player’s four-year ban has been reduced to nine months. Now that she will be allowed to immediately return to the tour, Halep recently landed back in her home country with a ‘big smile’ as fans got emotional to see her ‘truly happy.’
A Twitter fan account highlighting Romanian WTA players, including Simona Halep, revealed that the 2-time singles Grand Slam champion was met with a flurry of reporters upon her arrival in Romania. The user tweeted, “Simona just landed back in Romania and was met with a sea of reporters. But this smile from her, brought a tear to my eye. We havent seen this big a smile from Simona in a long time. You can see how truly happy she is.”

Reacting to the ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the 32-year-old player said, “My faith in the process was tested by the scandalous accusations that were leveled against me, and by the seemingly unlimited resources that were aligned against me. I cannot wait to return to the tour.”
Now that she has clearance to return to competitive tennis, do you know which tournament would most likely mark the WTA player’s comeback on the tour?

The tennis community might get to witness the former number-one player at the forthcoming Miami Open, as the tournament recently sent her an invitation. However, it has not been confirmed that it was a wildcard for Halep or just an invitation to attend the tournament, as a spectator.
