Sloane Stephens made her WTA debut in 2010, and she went on to reach the top echelons of the racket game. While amassing seven women’s tour singles titles, including a Grand Slam, the American tennis star has also reached the world No. 3 ranking. Now, after establishing herself as a household figure in the tennis community, Stephens has finally decided when she is finally going to put down her racket.

During her campaign at the season’s first major tournament, the Australian Open, Stephens made some revelations about her retirement plans. In the process of dropping a retirement bombshell, the former US Open champion also provided a clear-cut deadline date.

A video snippet from a recent episode of “Cinema Sessions with Sloane Stephens” was recently released via the Australian Open’s official Twitter page. Now that she has secured one major title and a runner-up finish, the former world No. 3 player was recently asked if she still has any ‘big plans’ for Grand Slam events.

During the episode, the American tennis star disclosed that she will never play the racket game again if she wins another Grand Slam title. Stephens said, “Yeah, there’s more, there’s more. I feel like there’s more, but let me tell you this, if I win a Grand Slam, I’m never playing tennis again. That will be the last…I’ll be like, ‘I’ll see you guys never, I’m out.'”

With some ‘big plans’ for Grand Slam events, the American tennis star recently marked her participation in the season’s first major tournament in Melbourne. Entering the Australian Open as an unseeded player, Stephens breezed past Olivia Gadecki in the first round with a score of 6-3, 6-1.

After dropping the first set of her next game, the 30-year-old pulled off a brilliant comeback as she brushed aside the 14th-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina in a three-set game, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Despite some stellar performances in her first two games,  Stephens faced a third-round defeat at the hands of Anna Kalinskaya, as she failed to mark a deep run in the Grand Slam event.
