Since the coming up of ‘King Richard’, Venus Williams and Will Smith seem to have developed a close friendly bond with each other. The two are regularly spotted attending award ceremonies as a part of team ‘King Richard.

Apart from that, Williams and Smith never leave an opportunity to praise each other. Where on one side Venus appreciates Smith for his phenomenal acting career, on the other side, Smith appreciates Venus for her legendary tennis career.

Adding on to their long list of award ceremony appearances, the two attended the Producers Guild of America Award. The two attended the ceremony as producers of King Richard. While Venus came in as an executive producer, Smith took up the role of producer (P.G.A.).

‘King Richard’ was nominated for Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t win the award. However, the cheeky dig by Venus at the post-ceremony interview took everyone’s heart.

Venus’s cheeky dig on Will Smith

Post the ceremony, Venus Williams was talking to a journalist from the American media company, Variety, when Smith interrupted the interview. Greeting Venus and the journalist, Smith too indulged in the ongoing conversation.

Getting into the conversation, Will Smith was asked to give his views on the love received by King Richard from the production community. Taking the question with grace, Smith asserted that it is his first time coming upfront as a producer. “This is my first time really venturing out upfront as a producer in that way, but I’m excited about it,” he said.’

As per the stories of King Richard, the Williams sisters took a last-minute decision to put their names on the movie. This was the time the 7-time grand slam champion pulled out her trump card. She said, “He gives me a hard time about not signing off till the end. So salty about that,” as everyone laughed it off.

Venus Williams gives her take on the production skills of Will Smith

Getting back to Will’s question, Venus went all out when talking about Smith. Apart from the production skills, Venus also left no stone unturned in appreciating Smith’s acting performance. She said, “He did amazing. There’s not one moment of the day that I don’t get someone coming up to me and telling me ‘How much courage he took in this role and how he showed what a father is. what a Africo-American father is. Also, making people come to tears. So, I think, really well, A++++”

Having received a deep ocean of appreciation, Will Smith also came forward, showing a gesture of gratitude towards the former World No. 1. “It was my deepest desire and commitment to honor you and your family in a way that would last forever,” he said.
