However, the 18-time singles Grand Slam champion has now issued a big statement about having a blunt demeanor.

Being a part of the LGBQT community, the Hall of Famer has been a proponent of lesbian and gay rights, which is also evident in her social media posts. While talking about her activism in different matters, the tennis veteran opened up about a harsh reality as ‘no filter’ turned to everyday battles with hate.

In the latest episode of the ‘On with Kara Swisher’ podcast, the former tennis ace talked about her move from her home country, the Czech Republic, to America, as she wanted to escape the communist rule that was there back then. She said, “I left my country because I couldn’t speak my mind. That was one of the reasons I wanted to be free to say what I want.”

Even though she fled to America, the American tennis veteran asserted that she faced criticism for being outspoken. However, Martina Navratilova opened up about how Twitter gave her an opportunity to speak candidly about her opinions and views, as it was not the case with her interviews. She said, “And then they cut out half the stuff that I say, this is a chance to have no filter and no censorship.”

While talking about activism on X, the 18-time singles Grand Slam champion said, “And then I realized this is a great way to read the news and make a comment.” Though she labeled Twitter as a great platform to candidly open up about one’s views, the former tennis player revealed that she is taking a step back as things have now changed on the social media platform.

During the honest conversation, the 18-time singles Grand Slam champion revealed how she also commented on political matters on Twitter. However, the Hall of Famer added, “And now I shall I’m taking a step back.”

Speaking about the reason behind her decision, the American tennis legend opened up about how things have changed on the social media platform since Elon Musk’s takeover. She said, “And now it’s just become so toxic with Elon Musk, allowing everybody on there that I’m taking a step back, and I’m going back to just posting stuff.”
