The year 2020 saw a massive turnaround for the National Women’s Soccer League. Angel City FC, one of the most popular teams in the league, came into being. Boasting a strong ownership group that featured Natalie Portman and Kara Nortman, the club was to become a sure-shot success. Furthermore, it welcomed another big name to its ownership group; it was the addition of Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian.
The Reddit co-founder was bullish on women’s soccer and invested a massive sum of $100 million into the club. The prime reasons for his massive investment were his daughter, Olympia, and USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe. The former’s support for USWNT moved Alexis and he also once revealed how insult to Rapinoe triggered his investment. Serena Williams’ husband’s heartfelt tribute to Megan Rapinoe
Rapinoe took to social media to announce the news of her retirement from soccer. As soon as the news broke out, it quickly went viral and invited reactions from millions of fans worldwide. Famous personalities too gave their tributes to the soccer star, amongst them was the Reddit co-founder, Alexis.
Taking to Twitter, Serena Williams’ husband wrote, “You have So much to be proud of!” Alexis was referring to Rapinoe’s massive achievements for her country and club.

Earlier, while announcing her retirement, Rapinoe said that it will be her final season on the soccer ground as a player and that she’ll put an end to her illustrious career after the NWSL season and the World Cup. Additionally, she said, “I never could have imagined the ways in which soccer would shape & change my life forever, but by the look on this little girl’s face, she knew all along.”
Alexis’ comment after Rapinoe’s record-setting night
Earlier this year, Rapinoe set a new NWSL record, after converting her 13th penalty-kick goal all-time. With this, Rapinoe had 48 goals all-time in the regular season. Additionally, NWSL also completed 1000 regular season games in the same game. Serena’s husband posted a wonderful message, saying, “Congratulations @nwsl, now onward to 1000 more.”
