“Something Really Wrong”: Tennis Fans Dejected After Sofia Kenin’s Unfortunate News

Sofia Kenin’s 2021 season has been a rather disappointing one. So far, she has registered an 11-10 win-loss record on the WTA Tour in 2021. Notably, the American youngster is yet to play a singles match, since her Wimbledon Championships second-round exit. Now, falling victim to yet another setback, she announced her withdrawal from the upcoming WTA 1000 Indian Wells tournament.
Falling to find any consistency throughout the tour, Kenin dropped from a career-high World No. 4 to World No. 8 in WTA Rankings. With rising competition from active players on the Tour, she might fall out of the Top 10 soon.

Simply unfortunate
Before Sofia Kenin, Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka also announced her withdrawal from Indian Wells. Currently, she is on an indefinite break from tennis, following her US Open loss.
As for Kenin, she would hope to recover soon and hit the training courts again. However, the main reason for her withdrawal is still unknown. This brought up some interesting fan reactions on the news, though.

Apart from Abu Dhabi and Yarra Valley Classic, Kenin did not reach the quarterfinals in any tournament. It clearly explains her inconsistency throughout the season.
However, the American star won the Australian Open and reached the finals at the French Open last year. So, even though it will take time, she will be up and running soon, leaving her mark in big tournaments.
