Danielle Collins is ‘not going to change’ for her haters

After defeating Elise Mertens in the quarterfinal round of the ongoing Charleston Open, Collins opened up in an interview with Tennis Channel about how she is not worried about her on- and off-court personalities being totally different; it’s her haters who are always up for chaos. “I think we still live in a world where there’s a lot of stereotypes and that’s not really like a political statement that’s just the way it is. And for women, I think you’re expected to behave in a certain way and so sometimes when you have a big personality and you’re really competitive like I am and fiery that can rub people the wrong way,” she said.

Not only that, she also highlighted the reason behind looking down on having a calm and friendly personality as a person but being competitive as a tennis player. Further, she also explained how women are unapologetically expected to behave in a particular way, but as she is a tennis player and has a popular personality, haters never miss an opportunity to make her look down. She added, “So you know, I just say to those people stay bothered because I’m me, this is how it is, and I’m not going to change for anybody.”

After that, the Miami Open champion came up with a strong statement, regarding how she really doesn’t care about what her haters think and that she is happy the way she is as an individual. This is not the first time she talked about embracing her personality, while recently she talked about being her own person. A few years ago, she was too up for her aggressive, competitive tennis personality.

When Collins didn’t shy away from embracing her haters’ thoughts

Collins made it to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Australian Open, which was a noteworthy accomplishment given her previous performances on the court. Despite these obstacles, she embraced her on-court picture with openness. Rather than sitting around listening to haters every year in there, Collins freely admits that she is a confrontationist on the court and doesn’t hesitate to get into fights.

She stated, “I’m my own person. I’m feisty. I love making it kind of a war. If somebody wants to get in my face on my unforced errors, I have no problem getting right back at them and making it a feisty match.” Furthermore, Collins stated that she frequently finds power in embracing herself against the world, acknowledging that the presence of naysayers fuels her determination.
