The relationship between a coach and a player is very crucial to help with the overall development of the player. While some players manage to build an exceptional partnership with their coach, Zheng Qinwen of China unfortunately could not do it. As soon as things started to turn well with Wim Fissette, he parted ways with her and joined Naomi Osaka which left her in absolute shock.
Reflecting on the same and talking about her new partnership with Pere Riba, Zheng reflects on her overall coaching journey while giving insights on how it all began for her. Not only this, she also talked about how she felt as she started working with Pere Riba.

Chinese sensation Zheng Qinwen talks about her coaching journey while clearing stance with Naomi Osaka’s coach
In a recent interview, Zheng Qinwen talked about her coaching journey. She trained hard from 12 to 16, and three years ago, she suggested that she moved to Barcelona for her tennis practice. But things got complicated when her coach, Wim Fissette, suddenly left to train Naomi Osaka last year. Completely unaware of this decision, Zheng was clearly upset about it. However, she did not say much about the incident.
Later, she joined hands with Pere Riba, who also parted ways with American sensation Coco Gauff at that time. Now, she’s happy with her new coach, Pere Riba, and is focused on doing well in tournaments. Despite the frustration with Fissette, Zheng is determined to move forward and appreciates the support from her current team as she competes.
“I’ve been practicing (indiscernible) between like 12 to 16, I would say. I started to practice in Barcelona like three years ago. Obviously we had a great work with each other with my coach right now. Honestly, to finish with him last year, that was not my — I don’t supposed to, and it wasn’t my real decision. But right now I’m just happy to be here, to have my team back. Yeah, I just say, Let’s go for it for this tournament. There is nothing I want to say about Wim Fissette, yeah,” said Zheng in the interview.

Thus, after the departure of Wim Fissette, Zheng Qinwen was completely devastated. However, she gathered back all her courage and joined hands with Pere Riba to start a new journey in the game.

While the partnership between the two did not end on a good note, Zheng revealed that she even cried after the US Open as she got to know about the fact that Wim will be joining hands with Naomi Osaka.

Zheng revealed that she cried all night after she got to know about the coach’s departure
Zheng Qinwen, in an interview back then revealed that her coach Wim came to her all of a sudden and suggested that they no longer had the connection as it was in the start. Coming to the dressing room after losing a match and then hearing all these kinds of words sounded strange to Zheng after which she asked her manager.

The manager replied that Wim would not join Osaka’s team but unfortunately, the same happened which left Zheng in a shocker. She was completely devastated and did not know what to do. She eventually cried and had to let her emotions go as she did not want to end terms with her coach in this way. Thus, Zheng Qinwen did not end terms with her coach in a good way as he left to join hands with Naomi Osaka.
