Parents play a crucial role in shaping the career of their children. Ask Venus and Serena Williams, who have gone on to become icons of the sport of tennis. Early on in their career, their father, Richard Williams took them to the public tennis courts in Compton to train. He, along with Oracene worked day in and day out so that his daughters could get adequate facilities to train.

As the Williams sisters were making big strides in tennis, Rick Macci joined their team. He struck a great bond with Richard to take their game to the next level. Further, all this had a compounding effect to turn the Williams sisters into one of the most successful siblings in the sport. Oracene once revealed how she spotted Serena and Venus’ abilities in tennis.

Venus and Serena Williams’ mother talks about the natural talent of the Williams sisters

During an interview, Oracene Price revealed how she saw something different in their game. She said, “It’s almost like they were raised on the court. They still weren’t as athletic as me but I did notice one thing: they had a natural swing. That’s what I looked for first.”

Venus returns to action

Following her lengthy injury layoff, the elder Williams sister has returned to action at the Citi Open. The Citi Open is a WTA 250 hard-court tournament in Washington DC. Venus will face Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino in the first round of the tournament.
