Strongly Connected to the Royal Family, Maria Sharapova’s Millionaire Businessman Fiancé Also Has an Intriguing Connection With Serena Williams’ Best Friend Meghan Markle

Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams were bitter rivals throughout their careers. But now that they have put down their racquets, the rivalry has ended. The two have now become close friends as they bonded over motherhood. However, both of them have another connection that is quite intriguing. Sharapova’s fiancée, Alexander Gilkes, was married to someone who was close to Serena William’s best friend Meghan Markle.

Sharapova announced her engagement to Gilkes in 2020. Gilkes was previously married to a fashion designer who is also the basis of his connection to the Duchess of Sussex.

Sharapova is engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkes. The two also have a boy together whom they named Theodore. While many would think that Sharapova has connections to the royal family through Serena Williams, they are quite mistaken. The British businessman, Gilkes, was previously married to Misha Nonoo, a US-based British-Bahraini fashion designer. 

Just like Serena Williams, Nonoo is also one of Meghan Markle’s close friends. However, the Russian player’s royal family ties go further. Gilkes is also a good friend of Prince William and Prince Harry.

The co-founder of ‘Squared Circles’ went to Eton College, which was also attended by the two royals. He was even invited to the wedding of Prince William in 2011 and that of Prince Harry in 2018.

Additionally, Princess Eugenie served as the auction manager at Paddle8 from 2013 to 2015. Paddle8 was co-founded by Gilkes.

Therefore, he had become a close friend to the royals by then and was also invited to Princess Eugenie’s marriage in 2018.
