

At the age of 50, Elena Pampoulova, who gave a lot to the tennis world, passed away on April 19th, leaving behind a rich legacy. She was also considered Europe’s top-ranked junior tennis player at one point in time. And to honor her for her amazing achievements in the tennis world, the WTA and her former peer paid their respect to the Bulgarian tennis player.
In the 90s, the 50-year-old tennis player regularly featured in the top 100.

WTA’s heart-warming tribute to Elena Pampoulova
Upon hearing the shocking news of her demise, the WTA paid tribute on the official website. In that, the WTA listed her amazing achievements and contributions on the tennis court. She was also a former member of the WTS player council, who left the world after battling a prolonged illness at the age of 50.

According to the WTA website, Pampoulova had a beautiful professional tennis journey from 1988-2001. Additionally, she achieved a career-high ranking of no 62 in singles and no 38 in doubles. At one point in time, she was considered Europe’s number two under-14-year-old tennis player, just after the 49-year-old former professional tennis player Monica Seles.
The Bulgarian tennis player won one WTA singles title while competing professionally. She won the title at Surabaya in 1994, and a few years later, in 1998, she made it to the Sopot finals. Her best major Grand Slam tournament finishes occurred when she reached the third round of the US Open in 1997 and the Wimbledon in 1999.

Additionally, from about 1988 to 1992, she competed for Bulgaria in the Billie Jean King Cup. But from 1997 to 1999, she played for Germany.
Another WTA player at the time, with whom she spent a lot of time, remembers the woman’s wonderful nature while grieving her loss.

Another former tennis player remembers Elena Pampoulova
In that same tribute, there were words of remembrance by Miriam Schropp-Kende, a fellow German tennis player who has watched her growth closely. She said, “Elena was a great athlete with enormous ambition and very hard working. Tennis was her life! She loved it. In addition, she was a great personality.”

Pampoulova adored tennis and compared the game to her life, according to the former German tennis star. In addition, she mentioned how the 50-year-old former tennis player was a very ambitious and hard-working athlete on the professional circuit.
