The American teenage phenom has made quite a stir as one of the rising stars of American tennis and gained popularity among tennis fans after winning her first Grand Slam title.  Nevertheless, this is not the first time a WTA tennis player has received a marriage proposal during a tournament.

Last year, during an exhibition doubles match, there was a moment when Maria Sakkari also received a marriage proposal from a fan, and her response to that proposal was just hilarious.

Last year, during a double exhibition match, Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas played against Matteo Berrettini and Katarina Zavatska. In between the matches, the Greek tennis player received a marriage proposal from the crowd. The local fans and New Yorkers were so enthusiastic that a fan shared his wish openly during the game of getting married to the 28-year-old tennis star.

After hearing that proposal, Sakkari herself halted the serve, and politely responded, saying, “I have a boyfriend, sorry.”

Although she excused the proposal by sharing her relationship status, at the same time, it created a moment that she will never forget. The ninth-ranked tennis player has reportedly been dating Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis’ son since 2020.
