In the latest edition of the Dubai Duty Free Championships, Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed and trying to get her form back. But the no.10 seed Elina Svitolina’s departure from the tournament shocked many fans around the world. That too, against a 35-ranked player from Switzerland, Jil Teichmann.

Jil lost in the final qualifiers against Katerina Siniakova and was almost out of this tournament. However, luck was on her side and it seems like she took full advantage of it. In the first round, the Swiss player beat the Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens 6-2,6-4. In the second round, she now beat the 15-ranked WTA player from Ukraine, Svitolina by 7-6,6-2.

What’s next for Teichmann and Svitolina?

Previously, Svitolina won the Dubai Open two times, and this loss is certainly not a great result for the Ukrainian. Svitolina didn’t have a great 2022 so far, as she terribly lost to Victoria Azarenka in the Aus Open round of 32 by 0-6,2-6. Slowly, the Ukrainian has been going down in rankings after some poor performances. She will now look to bounce back in the next tournament, possibly at Indian Wells.

Meanwhile, Jil Teichmann is over the moon after beating Svitolina as she is slowing going up in the rankings. She will now face either Garbine Muguruza or Veronika Kudermetova in the next round. They are currently playing at the center court in Dubai. No.4 seed, Muguruza is undoubtedly the favorite against Kudermetova. She will also be the favorite against the Swiss player in the next round.

However, if she can continue to perform like the previous two rounds, she will have a great chance against her next opponent.
