Former world no.1, Simona Halep is in scorching hot form at the Madrid Open. After blowing her first-round opponent, she absolutely destroyed world no.2 Paula Badosa to advance to the next round at the Madrid Open. Notably, after the Indian Wells, she appointed Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou.

Since then, the Romanian is playing some outstanding tennis, particularly in her last two matches. During a recent interview, she talked about whether or not we are seeing Simona 2.0, and she responded in a classic way. 

Are we seeing Simona Halep version 2.0?

Undoubtedly, Simona faced a lot of trouble with coaches after splitting with long-term coach Darren Cahill. Since then, she changed her coaching unit quite a few times. Now, it seems like she finally found a perfect coach in Patrick. After beating Badosa, a reporter asked the Romanian player if this was the new version of Simona or not.

In reply, she laughed and said, “New Simona, I would say (smiling). I will take this match as a boost and confidence, b/c I played with one of the best players in the world.”

Yesterday, the 2-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep played an outstanding match, as she beat the no.2 seed, Paula Badosa, by 6-3,6-1. In her earlier match, she also beat Zhang Shuai in straight sets. So far she looks in really great touch, as the new coaching partnership is starting to find its feet.

Simona faces the American teenage sensation in the next round

In her round of 16 match, Simona will take on the 18-year-old teenager, Coco Gauff. Earlier, the 16th-ranked WTA player defeated Yulia Putintseva in a very tough match. Now, she will face the former world no.1 in the next round. Previously, they faced each other twice, and both the times Simona won the match. This time, Gauff will be looking to change the previous losses into a win.

Meanwhile, Simona had to withdraw from the Miami Open after suffering an injury. Before that, she didn’t seem too confident while playing any of her matches. Now, after winning back-to-back matches convincingly, she will definitely find her lost confidence.
