No matter what you think, the WTA has flourished over the years, showcasing the best side of women’s tennis to the world. Women’s tennis is now on par with men’s tennis in terms of popularity. But WTA critics can’t understand the point of choosing one side as the best rather than supporting both as a whole. Recently, a WTA hater shared his opinion on women’s tennis, making the whole tennis world fume over his words.

Among them is a well-known tennis veteran. It’s none other than Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs. She gave a perfect example to correct the hater after his weird take on not liking women’s tennis.

Serena Williams’ ex-coach brings in Coco Gauff’s example to shut down a WTA hater

As the Shanghai Masters is going on, Casper Ruud and Yoshihito Nishioka’s early-stage match was streamed on the Tennis Channel. On the other hand, the Beijing Open quarterfinals between Caroline Garcia and Iga Swiatek was not broadcasted. This decision to broadcast ATP matches rather than WTA matches has created a huge debate in the tennis world.

In this debacle, a Twitter user shared his strange take while he tried to justify the action. He wrote, “Only twitter stans would find that strange. The rest of the world would rather watch challenger mens tennis than WTA. They do it for a reason, the womens ratings and ticket sales are terrible. WTA is really bad.” The WTA hater highlighted how ATP match ratings and ticket sales are just a level above women’s tennis.

To this, in no time, the former Australian tennis player replied, “Oh buddy. Tell that to the 3.4 million Americans that watched Coco Gauff win a US Open.”

But Stubbs corrected him with a very recent example that took place nearly a month ago at the US Open final, explaining how 19-year-old Coco Gauff’s engaged the tennis world. But, this is not the first time the 52-year-old former tennis player has commented on the renowned broadcaster’s choice to ignore WTA matches.

When Williams’ ex-coach mocked the renowned broadcaster

When the tweet regarding how Swiatek’s quarter-final match was not televised started doing the rounds on the internet, the 42-year-old American tennis legend’s ex-coach also joined the tennis fans in questioning the broadcaster’s decision. She took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “It’s gross”

Along with that, other fans also bashed the popular tennis network for not streaming the WTA quarter-final match on the main channel. A fan vented out his frustration and wrote, “Especially since the girls play amazing tennis.”

Another fan argued that the WTA matchup was more compelling than the men’s contest.
“I can confirm that Swiatek–Garcia would be way more interesting, Nishioka is just not playing atm,”
he wrote.

Subsequently, another person perceived it as an example of discrimination and wrote, “Oh I can’t even watch bc they got early rounds of Shanghai on Tennis Channel….I’m so done this shit is so sexist.“
