Who knows Chris Evert better than her arch-rival turned good friend Martina Navratilova? Right? And who would deny that their on-court rivalry is the best thing that ever happened to the sport of tennis? Now that they’re both retired, even a Twitter conversation is obvious proof of their amazing friendship.

Not only do they share the biggest rivalry in tennis, but arguably in all sports. The two have met each other eighty times on the tennis court; 60 of which were tournament finals. However, with time, both tennis legends also grew fond of each other’s company. And now, even after many years, they are frequently seen supporting each other on various issues and occasions.

A clear example of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert’s friendship 

It all started when, in 2021, the 18-time Grand Slam champion shared a podcast conversation that talked about the greatest rivalry between the two tennis legends. On that post, a fan commented that the American tennis player would have won the rivalry if she had possessed better footwork back in her playing days.

To that, the 59-time Grand Slam champion took a stand for her friend and commented, “This is a joke, right? Chris had great footwork, not sure who you are talking about… but it’s not Chris.”

While having this comment section conversation, the Czech–American former tennis player praised the 18-time Grand Slam champion for her amazing footwork and bashed the weird true fan who raised this question. She wrote, “Telling Chris Evert she needed better footwork is like telling Albert Einstein he needed to be smarter #betterbethoughtafool etc would apply here.

Not only did she praise the former tennis player’s footwork, but she also praised the athleticism that the former World number one had with her during her tennis days. However, it is not a hidden fact that both the tennis players are quite opposite to each other on and off the tennis court. Notably, there was a time when Navratilova spilled the beans regarding Evert’s personal side.

Last year in an interview, the 59-time Grand Slam champion revealed her good friend’s unknown personal side that not many people are aware of. Navratilova called Evert a cougar, pointing out that she is very protective of her family and friends.
