In the world of tennis, there are instances when the slightest of mistakes can become a big deal. The same thing has happened recently at the Japan Open. It was the quarter-finals of the tournament and Iga Swiatek was playing Veronika Kudermetova. In an action-packed match, the slightest of errors from the commentator became a thing of discussion for the former coach of Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs.

Stubbs, in a tweet, went all-in as she slammed the commentator after he mispronounced a player’s name. However, it is important to mention that during her time as a coach, there have been instances when she has been involved in controversies as well as a commentator.

Rennae Stubbs, renowned ex-coach of Serena Williams, recently took to Twitter to address an issue that has long troubled tennis enthusiasts – the mispronunciation of players’ names by WTA commentators.

In her tweet, Stubbs slammed the commentator for his mispronunciation of Veronika Kudermetova’s name during her quarter-final match against Iga Swiatek.

She urged the commentator to visit the official WTA website and listen to how Swiatek herself pronounces her name, emphasizing that it’s not “KudEMETEVA.”

“The dude calling this Swiatek V Kudermetova match, can u please go on the  @WTA website and listen to how she says her own name! Please! it’s not KudEMETEVA,” wrote Rennae Stubbs in her tweet while taking a dig at the commentator.

Thus this revelation shows Stubbs’ anger towards the commentator for their negligence in the matter. While the commentator mispronounced the name, Stubbs wanted the commentator to rectify the mistake that he made.

However, you should know that she has also tried her hands at commentary, and there have been instances when the Australian coach was involved in controversies herself as well.

Stubbs was once involved in a controversy when she was commentating at the US Open

During the 2020 US Open, Naomi Osaka used a face mask every time she entered the court. The face mash had the names of all those African Americans who lost their lives while in police custody. After she won the match, Rennae Stubbs came to interview her where she said, “We can’t wait for that next mask”. These comments made by  Stubbs were dealt with huge backlash as many slammed her for the inappropriate statement.

However, Stubbs later clarified that  she did not mean to cause hurt with her statement. She also went ahead to mention that the parents of the victims would be thankful to Naomi Osaka. Thus, this was one such moment when Stubbs herself had to deal with a huge backlash.
