Victoria Azarenka reflects on the role of tennis while having a deep conversation with her son

Azarenka’s son, Leo, is a big fan of sports. He often accompanies her mother to her matches. Leo loves to play soccer and ice hockey, and his love for hockey often gets reflected through their frequent visits to Canada. Recently, Victoria Azarenka spoke about the bond that she shares with her son. She said, “To also be a good role model to my son. It’s hard for me sometimes, when you let those emotions out and I feel like I need to control myself and sometimes it actually works against you.

Victoria Azarenka added, But I’ve kind of learnt that I’d rather have those tough conversations with him. If you know, something goes on the court and explain you know that sometimes things happen and that’s how you deal with that. I love that part, that I’m able to communicate with Leo and with some others, like my nephews, also play tennis. Those moments of that you can’t really talk too much.”

Emphasizing the contribution of tennis in their relationship, Azarenka said, “When they see it and then you kind of explain and have those deep conversations, even though he’s 7 we’ve. It’s priceless to me and I think tennis has played such a big part of that. And, yeah I’m very grateful to it.”

Azarenka feels she gets a ‘bit distracted’ to see Leo during her matches

Speaking about the challenges of balancing both worlds, Victoria Azarenka once said, “For me the biggest challenge, I would say, was an emotional attachment is kind of carrying that guilt of having time for myself and plan my day to be sometimes a little bit selfish. I had a feeling that I don’t want to miss out on really anything when he’s growing up.

She further added, “So now my son wants to come to my matches (smiling). It’s still a bit of a hard feeling for me because I get a bit distracted. I have tried that in’s-Hertogenbosch, and it was very awesome moment to share, but at the same time it kind of takes me a bit, you know, into my mom mode too much rather than being a tennis player.”

Victoria Azarenka has already become a role model for all working mothers. Her dedication, commitment, and love for both her family and tennis have been the true ingredients for her happiness both on and off the field.
