The WTA is the biggest organization in the world of women’s tennis. For the most part, it manages to do a commendable job of organizing tournaments and ensuring that things remain smooth for women tennis players. However, even the biggest organizations are prone to making mistakes from time to time. Recently, the organization made a hilarious error on Twitter and got a player’s name wrong. The player happens to be none other than doubles specialist Nicole Melichar-Martinez, whose last on-court appearance came against Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula in the Italian Open’s round of 32.

WTA adds insult to Melichar-Martinez’s injury following doubles defeat at the hands of Coco Gauff

Nicole Melichar-Martinez is one of the finest players in the women’s doubles category. Right now, the WTA ranks her at World No. 9 in doubles. However, despite her high WTA ranking, she was in for a shock after her Italian Open doubles loss to all-American duo Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula.

Melichar-Martinez found out that in a tweet announcing the result, the WTA had incorrectly listed her name as Nicole Melichar and not Nicole Melichar-Martinez. Following this discovery, she tweeted, “@WTA it’s Melichar-Martinez… not just Melichar… but thanks for chopping me in half”. She followed this statement up with a laughing emoji.

The doubles specialist and her husband tend to shy away from the tennis limelight. However, her husband plays a pivotal role in motivating her. He also helps her with her training from time to time. For instance, during the off-season between the 2021 and 2022 tennis seasons, it was her husband who trained her and helped her maintain her form and fitness.
