After dominating tennis for over 20 years, American sisters, Venus and Serena Williams, have accomplished nearly everything there is to accomplish in the sport. The younger sibling has won an unbelievable 23 Grand Slam tournament. On the other hand, Venus has won 7 Grand Slam singles titles, more than anyone else.

Together, they have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic doubles gold medals. Interestingly, they have also been one of the main crowd-pullers in women’s tennis. Recently, Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, credited Williams sisters for making tennis more widespread among Americans.
Alexis Ohanian attributes tennis’ popularity to Venus and Serena
Alexis Ohanian participated in the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Annual Salute to Women in Sports in New York on October 12, 2022. He then went on to get the Champion for Equality Award.
During his victory speech, the 39-year-old credited Serena Williams and her elder sister Venus for making tennis more widespread among Americans and said, “Like I said, I’ve had a front-row seat to it because the sport of tennis came to life thanks to a couple of little girls from Compton who no one even believed should have been there in the first place and again facts over feelings.”

He further added, “To this day, more Americans are tuning in to watch the US Open finals for the women than the men and lo and behold, this was because here’s a sport that’s actually put dollars and air time and attention towards supporting the women on a reasonably equal playing field to the men and the facts speak for themselves.” The American entrepreneur has always spoken out in favor of women’s advancement in sports alongside his wife, Serena Williams.
The rivalry between Serena and Venus Williams
The two sisters had set some impressive records throughout the years, and in doing so, they had to compete against one another numerous times. It’s notable because their games against one another always featured intense rivalry. When they played each other, they brought their A-games because they were familiar with each other’s play styles.

When we compare their singles wins and losses, Serena has a better record than her older sister. Serena has defeated Venus 19 times in their 31 head-to-head matchups. Venus, though, prevailed in a tighter 12-game match.
