‘That S**t Is Sad’- Coco Gauff’s Mental Block Against Rival Iga Swiatek Leaves Fans Bemused as WTA Finals Contest Ends up One-Sided

Coco Gauff faced Iga Swiatek in her second-round bout at the WTA Finals. The Polish player led the game easily as she bageled her opponent in the first set. Gauff turned up in the second set and even found a good rhythm to make sure that Swiatek did not have an easy time. However, the American sensation couldn’t keep the train going as she lost the game, which could have helped her win the second set. As she lost it without a legible serve, fans were left holding their heads.

Before the loss to Swiatek, another piece of news was shared related to the American sensation. One of her coaches announced that they would be leaving her time right before Gauff’s battle became intense.

During the second set, the tennis world saw a revived Gauff who gave her Polish opponent a tough battle. The score became 5-4 in Gauff’s favor, and she served to get a chance at a comeback. However, horrific scenes would unfold for her next.

She hit consecutive double faults to give Swiatek the game and equalized the score 5-5. As fans watched her lose the chance to seal the set, they shared their reactions online.

Jose Morgado, tennis journalist and commentator, was one of the first ones to comment on the situation. He showed his shock by Gauff hitting four double faults as she served for the set.

Game to Love, an informal tennis podcast, also shared their reaction. They wondered what was going on as the 19-year-old star just hit four double faults.

One tennis fan did not hold back as they said that it was sad that Gauff couldn’t even give one legible serve as she served for the set. They further showed their mind feeling incredulous over what they were watching.

One user shared the page of the WTA displaying the score of the bout as it equalized to 5-5. They also pondered if Swiatek could now close the match in two games, which she did.

Another user did not hold back as they called Gauff a loser for hitting four double faults as she served for the set.

Gauff did not manage to seal the 10th game of the second set, which gave Swiatek all the momentum she needed to close out the match. However, another loss to Gauff was shared before the match ended.

Riba announced departure from Gauff as she struggled against Swiatek

Gauff and Pere Riba became the dream team when she won three tournaments after a horrific Wimbledon stint. The Spanish coach had molded her into a player who would fight with the big stars and stand a good chance of coming out on top. However, their partnership is now coming to an end. Riba shared a post on his Instagram page where he announced the news.

He said that their split was happening mostly because of personal and health reasons on Riba’s side. He further wished Gauff the best of luck for the future and said that working with her was like a dream come true.
