Back in 2015, Serena and Venus were all set to play against each other in the quarterfinal of the US Open. Like many other American fans, former tennis star and a commentator of the game, Chris Evert was also in a difficult situation when Serena and Venus were to face each other. This reminded her of a similar situation she had faced in her life.
Recalling a match against her sister Jeanne Evert, she said,
“Jeanne and Olga Morozova once beat me and Martina Navratilova in a doubles match in Japan, I wouldn’t talk to her for three days. That’s how competitive I was.”
Further, Evert expressed her situation as being a fan of both the sisters. “I can’t even relate. It’s uncomfortable. And now, with what’s at stake? Who will the fans root for? I don’t even want to be in New York when they play. I want to be in another country,” she added.
