Richard Williams is an important man in tennis. He has given this sport its two best players of all time, Venus and Serena Williams. Though making them what they are today wasn’t an easy task. Richard went through a lot of obstacles to bring his daughters to the top.

The major obstacle was people constantly trying to sway him into training the girls according to their methods. However, Williams had a few things and rules set in his mind, which he used to preserve his daughters’ future. One of which was not adhering to unworthy sources and following his plans.
Richard Williams about not compromising his plans
Earlier, when the Williams sisters started dominating the game, Richard sat down for an interview to disclose his ways and beliefs. And when stumbled upon the question that does he feel that all the criticism he got for being stern and arrogant was fair, Williams said, “I can’t say if it was fair or unfair. I believe that anyone is entitled to think or say whatever they wish to say. All I know is I wouldn’t let them change what I was doing. I think that’s what’s wrong with America. In America, we don’t have kids who obey their parents.”

When you look at the tour, a lot of things could go wrong, but I wouldn’t let it go wrong for them. Everyone was trying to get me to believe that Venus and Serena should be playing this amount of tournaments. And I said no. When Venus is 14, she can play one. At 15, she can play two. She’s going to go to school and grow up as close as possible to the norm. I think that’s what I took a lot of criticism for.

Williams trusted very few people with guiding his daughters during their teenage days. Apart from himself, he only let Rick Macci, the trainer of 5 World No.1s train Serena and Venus before their debut.
What are Venus and Serena Williams up to?
Serena Williams, who walked out of the circuit around the same time as sister Venus and has made a comeback. While Venus is yet to disclose the date of her return to the courts. However, with the current setup, the chances of the 42-year-old playing in the grass swing are bleak.
