The former tennis star, however, lost to Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.

When Serena Williams cracked herself with a joke

After Williams’ blockbuster victory over Simona Halep. During the post-match conference, a reporter questioned the former world number one regarding the last time she felt that these kinds of rallies and amazing shots belonged to her. The 23-time Grand Slam champion gave a sarcastic reply before turning to a serious answer.

The 41-year-old tennis player at the time crossed her legs, folded her arms, and cracked herself with a joke. She said, “It’s definitely been a minute. It’s been a long minute. I think 1926 — the summer of 1926, I think — was the last time I felt that.” However, the tennis legend herself was born in the year 1981.

The 2017 Australian Open champion then talked about the skills she is good at. She said, “I’m good at rallying and I have to embrace the things I’m good at. I’m good at playing power. I’m good at hitting 100 balls. And that’s one thing that’s unique about me, that I just need to kind of accept and embrace and just be good at both.” Sometimes the tennis legend tops down tricky questions with sarcasm. But there was a time when the American tennis player refused to back down after a reporter questioned her on-court performance.
