Muguruza replied, “It’s tough, there is a lot of competition, each tournament is a little bit that you never know who is going to win. If I am good with myself, I think I am a very difficult opponent to beat, but feeling good I have also lost because the others also play very well. There is more competitive than ever.”
No one player, like Serena Williams for so long, will dominate, according to the Spaniard. Williams has achieved 23 Grand Slam titles in her professional career so far, but her last Slam victory came in 2017 and in the 2021 season, her best result was reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
Muguruza added, “There is no longer the domain of Serena (Williams) or something like that, now it is like each tournament that plays the best that week is going to take it away.”
With the emergence of young stars like Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez at the US Open this year, it’s clear to see that the future of WTA is bright and full of competition.
