The former World No. 1 was at the Barclays Center in New York, attending the boxing event featuring Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero.

During the event, Osaka heard people shouting and running. In the panic, people suspected that there was a shooting inside the arena. Petrified by the scene, Osaka followed the crowd and huddled in a room.

Osaka gives updates about the happenings

The 4-time Grand Slam champion gave an update on the happenings via Twitter. She tweeted, “I was just in the Barclays center and suddenly I heard shouting and saw people running, then we were being yelled at that there was an active shooter and we had to huddle in a room and close the doors, I was so f**king petrified man.”

Despite the panic, Osaka acted proactively to safeguard herself. In addition, she hoped that the thousands of people in the arena also made it to safety. Osaka also wrote, “I really hope everyone made it out safely, since I’m tweeting this we made it out ok.”

Following the incident, a number of visuals are surfacing on the internet. The visuals give a glimpse of the sudden panic created at the Barclays Center. Gunshots heard inside the arena reportedly caused the panic. However, moments later, it was explained that the gunshots were fired outside the stadium. Learning that the shooting took place outside the stadium, people rushed back inside the arena.
