Osaka took part in the Canadian Masters after having to keep out of the grass-based Grand Slam owing to a pestering injury. Though her return wasn’t impactful as she packed her bags in the first round only. Thus, to boost the former World no.1’s spirit, some fans engraved their love on postcards. To which an overwhelmed Osaka responded, “This is like me being real, but whenever people tell me that I am their favorite player. It’s like honestly the most flattering thing ever.”

She will start her journey at Cincinnati Open by locking horns with the Chinese professional Zhang Shuai. They will meet on 15th August to secure a seat in the round of 32.
