‘These Are (GOAT) Moves’ – Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Hails Tiger Woods for Turning Down $700-800 Million to Play LIV Golf

The LIV Golf Series is making several headlines since its announcement. One of the richest tournaments in the sport’s history, the LIV Golf series has created quite a stir due to its backing by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Prominent personalities like Donald Trump have come in support of the tournament, while others like Martina Navratilova have heavily criticized the move.

Even among players, some have backed this league, while others like Tiger Woods have stayed away from it. Recently, Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, praised Woods for declining to play in the tournament.

Alexis Ohanian is all praise for Tiger Woods

Recently, news surfaced that Woods was offered $700 million to $800 million to play in the LIV Golf Series. However, the American legend turned down the multi-million dollar offer.

Subsequently, Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, reacted to the news, saying, “These are (GOAT) moves. Not everyone is out here making moves for the legacy, but @TigerWoods is.”

Further, the source of funding has led to sharp criticism of the LIV Golf series. However, the tournament has secured the services of only one player, Dustin Johnson, among the top 20 golf players in the world.

During an interview, the CEO of the LIV Golf Series revealed that Woods had declined a multi-million dollar offer to join the tournament. Speaking about the offer to Woods, he said, “That number was out there before I became CEO. So that number has been out there, yes.”

Further, he went on to add, “And, look, Tiger is a needle-mover and of course you have to look at the best of the best. So they had originally approached Tiger before I became CEO. So, yes, that number was somewhere in that neighborhood.”

Recently, Woods was not named as an assistant for the US Presidents Cup Team. United States captain, Davis Love III, announced his final two assistants, Steve Stricker and Webb Simpson. The tournament will take place at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina in September. It is a charity event that has raised more than $54.4 million since its inception.
