‘They Acted Just Like We Did’: Venus Williams Opens Up on Dad’s Biography ‘King Richard’

The lives of Venus and Serena Williams have been nothing less than an epic story. Therefore, American cable television company HBO has decided to recreate their journey on the big screen. But, who is the protagonist between the two champions of tennis? That’s where the catch is!

The movie will unfold through the eyes of their father, Richard Williams. Born on Valentine’s Day in 1942, Richard has been the core pillar of Venus and Serena’s prolonged success. He was their first-ever coach and continues to render his duties!

To top it all, Disney’s new genie, Will Smith, has been roped in to play the role of Richard Williams. The movie is titled, ‘King Richard’ and will release near the end of 2021.

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams loves her father more than one can fathom. She is pumped up to relive her childhood days through the film, and said:

“It’s very exciting. It’s really about my dad and how he literally changed the game and how this started. He’s a revolutionary kind of person and I love him to death.”

Their mother Oracene Price, a big part of the story, will show the fun side of the Williams family. “And my mom, of course, is also featured in the movie. She’s the coolest lady on the planet. She’s so fun,” Venus added.

Moving ahead, the four-time Olympic Gold medallist also explained her relationship with the two girls who are playing her and Serena in the movie. As per Venus, they are excelling, even with the pressure that comes along with taking up the roles of two of the most celebrated female athletes in history.

“But the two young ladies that played both Serena and I, they acted just like we did, holding hands and hugging each other. So, it was really interesting to see of dynamic on set,” she said.

Other than the film, Venus also talked about playing with her sister, the 23 Grand Slam champion. Watch the whole thing here.
