

Venus and Serena Williams ruled the court like no other. They were the only ones who could hold a candle to one another’s prowess. When forces combined, they became invincible. The Williams sisters grew up together and practiced on the same court. Therefore, they developed a deep understanding of each other’s game.

Hence, apart from dominating the singles, they also regained doubles. However, managing the doubles game alongside singles is a hectic task, so they had to miss out on it to avoid over-exploitation of their bodies. Basing his theory on this fact, their former coach Rick Macci recently made a claim.
Macci about what Venus and Serena Williams could have achieved
The American tennis coach, while in an interview, shared his thoughts about how successful the Williams duo would have been if they participated in the doubles category regularly. “If the sisters had played all the doubles they could have won 60 majors,” he said.

“Then add mixed doubles… But you have to eat and sleep, too, right?” he added. The former World No 1s piled up a total of 14 doubles Grand Slam trophies. Four from the Australian Open, two from French Open, six from Wimbledon, and two from their home-based majors.

Further apart from Grand Slams, they shined in the Olympic games as well. Serena and Venus, first in the year 2000, defeated the Netherlands team to mark their names on the gold medal. Thereafter, they claimed the medal again in Beijing and defended the same in London.
Venus and Serena’s record against each other
The duo’s careers panned in the same era and that, in a way, limited their individual achievements. They, if not in the same pool, met each other frequently in the finals. The Williams sisters locked horns 31 times before the 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams hung her racket.

Out of those 31 clashes, Serena came out victorious in 19 and the remaining 12 are marked under her elder sister’s name. Further, speaking of their first and last meeting as rivals. Serena and Venus’ head-to-head started on the hard courts of the Australian Open and ended in Lexington. In Australia, Venus was at the winning end and in the Top Seed Open, Serena embraced victory.
