American tennis star, Coco Gauff, has done amazingly well in the recent past. The 18-year-old rose in the ranks with a pretty consistent performance on the tour. However, the problem with her is not finishing things up. Earlier this year, she made it to the French Open final but lost to Iga Swiatek. Further, the two have met in crunch matches on other occasions as well. However, every time Swiatek stands as a wall between Gauff and the title.

Speaking about her performance, the pattern is quite similar to NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace’s performance. A podcast specifically discussed the similarity between Gauff and Wallace.

The similarity between Coco Gauff and Bubba Wallace

Speaking about the similarity, the very first thing that comes to mind is their performance. The two of them have done significantly well in their respective fields. However, they both have a common challenge too. It’s the inability to cross the finish line, i.e. to win the tournament. Here’s what the podcast host explains about it.

“I think they are good in the present for both sports. But I think the biggest difference is that as much as Coco Gauff can speak her mind she is not asked to blaze any kind of trail in women’s tennis,” he said.

Comparing the two, he further added, “we do see some similarities. One of which is the fact that there’s always a lot of attention cast on them. They are good at their respective crafts…….. but they haven’t got the victory lanes, they have missed opportunities for better finishes.”

Swiatek has been very clinical in her performance against the American. The two have faced each other five times in the last two years. In each of their encounters, Swiatek has not dropped a single set and claimed all five of them easily. Their most recent clash was in the quarterfinal of the San Diego Open. Swiatek won the match, 6-0, 6-3.

The two will be face to face again in the WTA Finals on Sunday. While Swiatek comes high on confidence after winning her first two matches, it’s exactly the opposite for Gauff. The American has lost both of her round-robin matches so far and will be hoping to register her first victory against Swiatek.
