However, Ohanian, during his initial successful days, lost his mother to cancer and always wished she were by his side. Recently, the Reddit co-founder recalled his mother’s unflagging support for him.

Everybody can see Reddit’s success, but only a few can understand the heartbreaking story behind the foundation of the social media platform. Alexis Ohanian’s mother passed away in 2008 from complications due to a brain tumor. Within a month of launching the website, Ohanian learned from his father that his mother had terminal cancer. This news shattered his world.

The Reddit co-founder recently thought back to a moment in 2017 when he was contemplating his mother’s unwavering support throughout his early Reddit days. Serena Williams’ husband took to his social media account to share an old video from the 2017 Reddit Holiday party. Along with the video, he posted a heartfelt tribute to his mother.

He wrote, “5yrs ago today at our 2017 Reddit Holiday Party — I was there thinking of my mom, who got terminal cancer right as I started Reddit + how much her unflagging support meant to me + I KNOW powered our success. Thank you to all the loved ones who support us crazy startup folks.” Furthermore, the 39-year-old American billionaire commended Reddit users for their constant support of the $10 million worth platform. 

Ohanian once dreamed about his mother 

Earlier this year, the Reddit co-founder experienced the most vivid dream he’d ever had in the last two decades. Ohanian had the chance to see his mother once again in that dream. The 39-year-old businessman’s dream was about an award ceremony or party to honor the Reddit co-founder. The nicest part was that his mother was a part of his dream.
